Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev won his initial trophy for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a difficult period, achieving just one win at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's maiden championship following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court after spring of that year.

The win also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one victories at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive play style and regular outbursts on court had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and play aggressively, supported by an improved serving game.

He fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players swapped service breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his initial ATP Tour championship, took control to push for a decider.

The opponent rescued four initial opportunities in a competitive final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner secured the win with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
